Niner Niner Beta Password

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

We’re getting a little bit more serious lately with our Niner Niner project over at the menlo park 2 labs.

Gabriel has knocked out some awesome-looking designs for our new Ajax Blog and now High Heels Blog.

I’ve been turning on a few more blogs here and there, and getting the backend working a bit more smoothly.

If you’d like to signup, the beta password is:

Update: Beta password removed for now… If you’d like to be put on the beta waiting list, please leave a comment below.

I know, it’s incredibly hard to guess. No one would ever figure it out in a million years =)

So… what is Niner Niner all about, you ask?

Niner Niner - Collaborative Weblog Media

We’re blogging the Long Tail of weblog media.

From High Heels to Medical Privacy - we’ve probably got a blog for you … or soon will.

Writers Wanted … How It Works

1. We provide a platform for you to write about the topics you love.

We’re so eager to hear from you, we’ll even pay you to do so.

2. You get paid per post, anywhere from several dollars to several quarters, depending on the topic.

(We’re not asking for Shakespearean prose here.)

3. Receive bonuses the more you contribute, and get paid when your balance reaches $25 or more.

You know what the best part is?

You get to collaborate with a group of writers who are just as passionate as you are!

Does that help explain it better?

So go, get on outta here. Go signup over at Niner Niner. Remember, the beta password is:

(Whatever you do, don’t tell anyone the password… or post it on your blog.)

It’s Official, Folks: Yahoo Acquires Flickr

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

Is it just me, or are secrets hard to keep in the blogosphere space?

(*cough Six Apart acquiring LiveJournal*)

Now this… You’ve heard the rumors. Now it’s official.

Yahoo has acquired Flickr.

Here’s Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake on the acquisition:

Holy smokes, SOMEBODY out there is bad at keeping secrets!! Yes! We can finally confirm that Yahoo has made a definitive agreement to acquire Flickr and us, Ludicorp. Smack the tattlers and pop the champagne corks!

Woohoo! What does this mean? It means that we’ll no longer have to draw straws to see who gets paid, schedule conjugal visits between trips to the colo….wait! That’s not what you want to know.

Full post here.

This acquisition makes total sense from all sides.

Why would Flickr go the VC route, when they probably got a hefty valuation for outright purchase from Yahoo?

I love Flickr, I really, really do… but we also have no idea what its revenue numbers are. I do think it will be a huge company (or whatever, now, for Yahoo).

But I’m willing to bet they sold at a hefty, premium valuation to their earnings multiple here.

On the flip side, Yahoo has acquired a great company. It looks like the Flickr folk are committed to the long haul, and won’t just be cashing out after a few years of effort.

Flickr Invites: Yes, I’m That Guy

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

It’s 4:34 AM here in Phoenix, AZ … and I just invited about 50+ people to Flickr.
Me

Some close friends, some random acquaintances. Some “I haven’t seen you in five years … so what the hell are you emailing me for” pals.

So Yes, I’m that guy. That guy who randomly invites you to join yet another (social networking)++ site.

Sorry about that.

But I wanted to finally just pick One social net site, and invite some old pals to it. You don’t have to signup, of course.

If you do want to signup, go check out My Flickr and add me as a friend (or contact, or arch enemy, or whatever).

Fooled by Randomness

If the previous two posts were utterly lost on you (or you disagree vehemently),

Warning: you may have been fooled by randomness.

Proceed cautiously.
